Life Coach Certification: How-To

Life coach certification is a great idea for any person interested in seriously mentoring others. Whether you want to inspire children with your personal story or triumph over adversity, implement your religious beliefs in a proactive endeavor, or simply get involved with your community on a deeper level, life coaching is a flexible skill that can have far-reaching, positive effects.

Life coach certification is offered by a variety of businesses specializing in training coaches in terms of self-presentation, mentoring skills, and other important elements of coaching. Both in-persona and online courses are available through organizations that offer a variety of possible coaching ideas. Life coaching is a diverse field, encompassing positions such as holistic life coaching, mind body fitness coaching, green living coaching, and more.

The first step to certification is choosing a path to fit your particular coaching skills and interests. Once you have found an institute that trains in this area, you can begin the coursework and soon become certified. Although certification is not necessary to coach, it provides your potential clients with assurance of your training and abilities, which can help you reach a wider audience. The life coach accreditation industry can be complex to navigate, as there are multiple bodies competing for business and prestige. While some schools require completion of courses and a minimum number hours experience before accreditation, other schools may not offer certification at all. Make sure you compare your options when deciding what type of training you should take on.

Because experience is the best teacher, you may want to advertise yourself via other aspects of your resume besides your certification. The impact you have on your clients’ lives, the number of clients you have had, and the evolution of your coaching style can all speak volumes of your skill and propel your coaching career. Life coach certification can be a useful tool, but may not be necessary for those who have the skills and resources already.
